The wolf is one of the most prevalent animals in the lore of many cultures. The Norse god Fenrir the son of Loki was a giant wolf.
For the Celts, the wolf was the companion and/or form of many different gods and goddesses, and was closely associated with the winter months. The Gaelic word for January, "Faoilleach" translates to -the month of the wolf.
